Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. The tracking is straight line point to point tracking by satellite therefore there may be rare circumstances where a vehicle has turned at a junction and the point to point tracking cuts the corner. This is the same for any GPS tracking product. The algorithm used to calculate the overall distance takes this into account. The distances involved are 10s of meters and the overall distance given is as accurate as any odometer which itself has inaccuracies.
